Frequently Asked Questions

You may need to complete a Self Assessment tax return if you’re self-employed, receive rental income, have investment income, are a company director or have other income that needs to be reported to HMRC. If you’re unsure, we can help you understand your reporting requirements.

Tax planning is about making sure you’re claiming the reliefs and allowances you’re entitled to. This could include reviewing your tax code, making use of available allowances or considering the tax implications of investments, property or pension contributions.

It can. Income from employment, self-employment, property, dividends and investments may all have different tax rules. Looking at them together helps ensure you’re paying the correct amount of tax and meeting your HMRC obligations.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is being introduced in stages.

  • From April 2026 – Self-employed individuals and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000
  • From April 2027 – Qualifying income over £30,000
  • From April 2028 – Qualifying income over £20,000

If MTD applies to you, you’ll need to keep digital records and submit updates to HMRC using compatible software.
